This is the first large-scale exhibition on this subject. It will be held at the Tjibaou Cultural Center in Noumea, the Capital of New Caledonia. The Center is a cultural complex built on 8 hectares by the French Government for the purpose of creating a base for cultural exchanges among Pacific states, as well as exhibiting the histories and cultures of the Kanak peoples. The architecture is said to be one of the masterpieces of Mr. Renzo Piano, a world-famous architect, and is in perfect harmony with the natural environment and surrounding coral reefs.

The exhibition is multi-disciplinary and multi-media. The installation integrates Mutsumi Tsuda's own works (photography and video) with a special collection of memorabilia and old photos owned by Japanese Niseis and from archives. The exhibition catalogue will contain historical and anthropological writings by an international team of researchers from New Caledonia, Japan and Australia.

The exhibition consists of four parts:
Journey to New Caledonia
Life in New Caledonia
From the Pearl Harbour Attack to Internment in Australia
